Microneedling or Collagen Induction is a procedure that uses tiny needles to puncture the very first layer of skin.
The skin is a natural barrier, designed to keep things out, which is why only a small percentage of active ingredients ever penetrate the dermis. Collagen Induction helps create tiny entry points.
By creating these microscopic ‘micro-channels’ in the skin, the dermis is forced to switch to its ‘defence mode’, pushing the wound-healing response into overdrive, which results in greater elastin and collagen growth.
The kick-started cellular renewal is not a quick fix as it involves growth of new layers of skin, rather, it gradually reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and elevates the overall texture.
Microneedling is great for treating fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, reduce the appearance of large pores, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, sun damage, general texture irregularities and skin laxity. It can be also be done all over the body to treat legs, neck, abdomen, back and hands. Treatment can customize based on your goals!
There are two important components to prepare your skin for this treatment. The first is to avoid any direct exposure to sunlight for at least 24 hours unless you are wearing strong SPF to protect your skin. Prolonged sun exposure may cause skin irritation during your treatment.
You will also need to temporarily stop using certain skincare products, particularly retinoids and acid-based products, such as lactic acid, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid.
If you are taking blood-thinning medication, then you may need to temporarily stop using the medication for one to three days before your appointment.
Your true results will be visible after at least two to four weeks, depending of how fast your body produces collagen in the skin. The results of your treatment will continue to prove as new collagen matures in the skin and provides the skin with additional support. The collagen maturation process is often quicker for younger patients, who may be able to see final results as soon as three to four weeks after treatment; older patients may require more than four weeks to see desired results.
Microneedling Treatment is usually performed every 4-6 weeks until desired results are accomplished. After that, the frequency of your treatment will depend on factors such as your age, your skin concerns, and how well you are maintaining your treatment.
